Francis Beauchemin-Brazeau, a committed broker: climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for the cause
Francis Beauchemin-Brazeau, real estate broker affiliated with groupe sutton – actuel, will climb Mount Kilimanjaro for research in thoracic oncology.
Reaching new heights for the cause
The Kilimanjaro Challenge is an initiative launched by Laurie Brunton, physiotherapist, and Dr. Mehdi Tahiri, thoracic surgeon, both affiliated with the Charles LeMoyne Hospital. This challenge brings together about twenty participants who will climb the highest mountain in Africa to raise funds for the Charles LeMoyne Hospital Foundation, to benefit research in thoracic oncology.
Francis decided to participate without hesitation when his partner, Karine Durocher, head nurse at the hospital, told him about the challenge. He couldn’t resist the opportunity to contribute to the cause and the call of adventure.
The twenty participants aim to raise $50,000 for the cause and will travel to Africa next October to climb Kilimanjaro.
At the time of writing, the team is on the verge of reaching its goal with nearly $45,000 raised.
About the Charles LeMoyne Hospital Foundation
The Charles LeMoyne Hospital Foundation aims to raise funds to enable the hospital to continue providing quality care.
The funds raised through the Kilimanjaro Challenge will specifically contribute to research on thoracic oncology, i.e. research on thoracic cancers such as lung cancer.
A challenge that requires preparation
Although Francis has always been a hiking enthusiast, this year, he has increased his excursions in preparation for the challenge. With his partner, they have taken on the region’s summits. Among other things, they took on the 5 Summits Challenge in Charlevoix and climbed some of the highest summits in the northeastern United States.
They also approached their trip to Peru with a couple of friends as “preparation” for the Challenge. Indeed, the city of Cusco, where they stayed, is at an altitude of 3,400 meters and they also climbed Rainbow Mountain, at an altitude of 5,200 meters.
All this preparation for the Challenge led them to develop a great discipline that positively affects both their physical and mental health. “You find zenitude when you are in the mountains,” says Francis.
Contribute to the cause
Any contribution is welcome. “I am asking for your support to encourage me to make a difference and reach new heights in the fight against cancer! Every donation is precious!” wrote Francis in the post he shared on social media to encourage people to contribute.
With over $700 raised at the time of writing, he aims to reach and surpass his goal of $1,000 for the Foundation.
